Medals Galore at the England Athletics Age Group Indoor Championships

C&C athletes had one of their most successful medal haul at a national championships in recent years. The championships featured the best athletes in the U15/U17 and U20 age groups.

Leading the medal haul was Leah Wagstaff who won a gold medal in the U20 60m hurdles. Although Leah finished second in the final she was the first English athlete over the line in a time of 8.64 seconds which was Leah’s second fastest time ever. Leah had previously recorded times of 8.83 in her heat and 8.74 in the semi final.

It was a silver each for brother and sister George and Jasmine Christmas in the 1500m. Jasmine (U17w) was first to race and run a brave race hitting the front with two laps to go, having a 2 metres lead at the bell. Unfortunately she was just run out of it in the final 10 metres. Jasmine was however rewarded with a silver medal and a PB of 4:32.92. George (U20m) also ran a great race leading from the front with two laps to go George fought hard over the final lap to keep the lead but was overtaken in the last lap despite a valiant effort in the last 50 metres.

High jumper Fiona Adler (u17w) had a very strong competition which was rewarded with a bronze medal with a jump of 1.65m. This performance was also a PB and a new club record beating the previous mark of 1.64m that had stood since 1977!

Omondi Owur (U17m) also excelled in the high jump with a PB jump of 1.90m and was rewarded with a 4th place.

In the sprints Paul Lambrecht (u20m) qualified for the semi final with a time of 7.04 following this up with a PB of 6.95 in the semi final. Nigel Nyundo also competed in the U20 m 60m with a time of 7.22 in the heats.

Congratulations to all of the athletes, coaches and supporters. It is a great achievement to obtain the qualifying standard for these championships.
