Lakeland 50 Race Report

On Sunday 28th July at 11.30am, 1500 competitors set off to traverse 50 miles and 3100m of ascent to get from Dalemain Estate to Coniston within 24 hours. C&C runner Anna Klucnika managed a sprint finish to finish 3rd with just one minute to spare in a total time of 9 hours and 36 minutes. The race had a record number of women entering the ballot to compete and the lottery ensured that 50% of competitors were female The downpour of rain that occurred before the start meant that the course was much wetter than previous years, turning some descents into mudslides. Otherwise, conditions were almost ideal and a sunny afternoon meant that the views across the fells were particularly spectacular. This was Anna’s third ultra and first time racing over 50km and with technical terrain but she looks forward to completing in more ultramarathons and road marathons.
