The club is open to anyone who wishes to participate in athletics and athletes with disabilities are most welcome. Β Over the years C&C have initiated the careers of a number of international Paralympic and Special Olympics athletes.
The club welcomes and offers opportunities for people with all kinds of disabilities to take part in athletics. There are runners with conditions such as Downβs Syndrome, cerebral palsy and visual impairment, and there is also a dedicated group of wheelchair racers and frame runners.
Where possible athletes with disabilities train with the main event squads or young athletes training groups, but there may be some circumstances where this is not always possible e.g. wheelchair racing or where athletes have severe learning difficulties.
In these circumstances the club will make special arrangements with coaches whenever possible, but there may be a minority of situations where we recommend a more suitable alternative.
The facilities used by C&C are all accessible for wheelchair users and athletes with other disabilities.
For those unable to run, we also have wheelchair and frame running sessions.
If you are ready to join or have any questions, please contact [email protected].
Disability athletics at C&C
At C&C we place a strong emphasis on getting fit as a goal, as well as encouraging and enabling athletes to compete if they want to, but it is not a requirement.
If you are nervous, please talk to our coaches and come down to meet up with the other athletes.
We are expanding our capability with coaches and equipment, so please get in touch to see if we can fit in your specific requirements.
If we can, we support other athletes with disabilities if itβs possible/sensible for them to work alongside the wheelchair athletes rather than join a different C&C group. This enables an simpler and more gentle phase into the club and to see if one of the other groups may be possible later on.
At Cambridge & Coleridge we want to assure you that you can trust us to look after your data.
