The Round Norfolk Relay is probably the most fun you can have in remotest Norfolk with your running shoes on and the longest continuous multi-terrain running relay in the UK! It is open to all C&C runners!
This year’s race will be held on the 14-15th September 2024 and will be the club’s 17th appearance! The race is a seventeen stage 198 mile relay following the border of Norfolk, that starts in Kings Lynn on Saturday morning and finishes in the same location roughly 24 hours later. The stages are of varying lengths, the shortest being 5.49 miles and the longest 18.88 miles. Some are off road but most are on open roads. The aim is to try and get all the runners to the finish at around the same time, so it’s the start times that are staggered. You can find lots of information about the race: the stage directions and profiles, the rules and past results and on the RNR website: http://www.roundnorfolkrelay.com/.
We had great success last year winning the Masters class with our A team and 2nd in the Mixed class with our B team (coming in 10th and 13th. In previous years the club has won the Club class, the Open class and the Ladies class. Weโd like to complete the trophy haul and weโll be gunning for a win in the Mixed class (which requires a minimum of 8 female runners) for the first time! We also have a team for the rest of us who aren’t the quickest in their class so please don’t hesitate to sign up and join the fun!
Of course, if you have questions you can always ask me ([email protected]) or one of the other members of the club who has run in it before, you’ll know who they are as they have a special glint in their eyes! I’ve had some of my most memorable runs ever in the RNR. I’ll always remember running down the coast into Horsey Mill, with the sun setting gently on my right and the sea behind the dune bank on my left, watching a horse gallop across a field. It felt good to be alive! Or, running through Thetford Forest at some silly time in the very early morning dipping in and out of fog pockets while the road gently undulated, big me shadows thrown onto the fog by the car lights behind. One year as a treat to myself as team captain I decided I’d like a pleasant run along the coast. What I hadn’t fully anticipated was that as well as having 3 miles of shingle, stage 5 has pretty much the only serious hills along the 198 miles! But probably the best thing about the RNR for me is the team spirit! This race really is for everyone, come and join us.
