Marvellous Masters Excel Again

C&C Masters Sarah McGrath and Pete Thompson have both won medals at
recent British Masters Athletic Federation meets.

On May 3rd Pete ran in the BMAF 10 mile Championships held on the racing
circuit at Mallory Park, Leicestershire. On the hilly route, Pete ran an M65 club
record time of 69:37 to take the silver medal.

On 24th May, both Pete and Sarah were in action at Horspath, Oxfordshire.
Sarah was taking part in the BMAF Throws Pentathlon, Pete in the 10,000m
Championships.

The Throws Pentathlon is a combination of 5 throwing events: hammer, shot,
discus, javelin, and weight. In very windy conditions, Sarah’s distances for each
were as follows: 29.85, 10.42, 22.72, 20.14, and 11.93. The 11.93 marker for
the weight was a new club record.

At the end of a long and exhausting day of competition, Sarah came away with
a well-deserved silver medal. She beat many athletes in the age groups below
her, and was only beaten by the current World Champion within her own age
group.

While Sarah was working away with her throwing, Pete was running the 25
laps that make up the 10,000m. Pete had come 3rd at this event last year, and
took the Bronze again this year, in a time of 44:06. The gold and silver were
won in times of 42:30 and 42:52 respectively.

Lisa Teverson was officiating all day when Sarah and Pete were competing at Horspath. A big thank you to her as events such as these cannot take place without officials.
