Our Volunteer Officials, In Their Own Words
We’re publishing personal accounts by some of the officials who support our Track and Field Competitions. They’re ordinary people who volunteer to ensure our athletes can compete safely and fairly.
If you want to be part of the team, please email Carol Wright ([email protected]), or volunteer to help on a competition day.

I’m both a level 2 timekeeper and field judge which gives me flexibility to help whether the need is greatest at matches. I also enjoy the variety.
I’ve been helping as an official since around 2013 when our children were competing at the young athletes’ competitions. I was asked to help with a long jump competition, and it went from there. I thought I’d get the qualifications to ensure I understood more about it.
It’s given me an opportunity to help athletics enjoy their sport, and I’ve enjoyed the camaraderie of the officials and getting to know people from other clubs, too.
One of my highlights has been helping officiate at the famous Oxford versus Cambridge varsity competitions – the 150th event is taking place this May.
If you care about sport, then I’d thoroughly recommend becoming an official.
