April means many big moments for C&C; the start of the outdoor T&F season, the London marathon, our own Cambourne 10k, and the first race of the Arkwright summer 5k League.
Before looking ahead, let’s have a quick look back at the month of March.
As you will have seen reported already, C&C has a World Champion! Michael Hausler had a great year in 2024, where he was breaking records for fun. Now, in 2025 he has taken a World title! This is one of the wonderous joys of athletics – in how many other sports can you have probably your greatest sporting moment in your mid-60’s? Well done Michael, an amazing and well-deserved achievement!
At the other end of the age scale, C&C had two wonderful days last month at the Schools Championships. Again, already reported on the website, but many, many congratulations to all involved.
Right at the end of the month we had the Southern Road Relays. More great team performances here that saw our Men’s A team placed 2nd, and our B team 24th. Our C&C ladies team came 4th. Really fantastic results!
It’s so wonderful to see Juniors, Seniors, and Masters all doing so well at C&C.

Also in March, the club had a successful “Practice Day” at the Cambridge track. Well done to all that took part, either competing or officiating.
The London marathon, this year held on 27th April, is considered by some of our members as the greatest race, and day out, of the year! And let’s not forget, last year C&C won the English Marathon Club Championships at the event. We hope that all C&C members taking part, whether at the front end, or aiming to complete their first 26.2 mile adventure, or anywhere in-between, a wonderful day. Very best of luck to all.

Look out for news about the Arkwright Summer 5k League. If you are new to the club, these are great races to get into and meet other members. We have had really big turn-outs in recent years. Every member that runs scores, so everyone contributes by being there. Just turn up with your club vest and enjoy!
April sees the first EYAL (13th) and EAL (27th) matches, both at Cambridge. This is what the winter training has all been leading up to. Now is the time to put on that club vest and have fun doing the very best that you can for the team. If you are competing for the club for the first time, welcome, and good luck to you. I hope that you go on to have a long and successful journey with the club. If you’re nervous, that’s good, nerves can help you perform better!
Let’s use our home advantage at these meetings to have a great turn-out and get the season off to a flying start!
Also on the 13th, there is the our own Cambourne 10k. Firstly, well done to the race committee for all the organisational work that has gone on so far. Putting on an event like this takes a lot of time and effort, and we are very grateful to all of those involved. Last year the sun shone and everyone had a really great day. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us again this time.
Finally, you will have seen more calls to join our team of officials. Please do consider this. Our T&F events cannot go on without our wonderful team of dedicated volunteers. You can help out, and gain experience, without needing to be qualified. The roles are really interesting and enjoyable, and you will be part of a friendly team, all working together to enable the athletes to have a great day. And of course the club will support and help you if you go on to take the qualifications. The more officials we have, the more the workload is shared. If you are a parent, consider how much time our volunteer coaches put into helping your child in training, and then how much weekend time our officials put in so that they can compete. Becoming an official yourself is one of the best ways that you can give back to the club. For more information please contact Carol at: [email protected]
Thank you.
A really exciting month lays ahead! Have a fantastic time, and whatever your particular challenge is, go for it with determination. I wish you every success.
