Michael Hausler is World Champion! Here is his report from Gainesville.
I am very pleased that I was able to win the M65 Shot Put (13.56m) in Gainesville this week to become World Champion! A first for me!!
I arrived a few days earlier on Thursday evening, to adjust to the time-zone and the much warmer weather. For additional preparation I participated in a local throws competition on Saturday, where I was able to perform well.
The competition took place on Tuesday 25th March at 16:15 local time in the main indoor stadium. Aircon was on as it was 28 Celsius outside!! Coming to the world championships with the world leading performance I definitely felt the pressure to perform! I am very pleased I could pull it off this time!
I attach the result card for the Top 8 (18 athletes in total took part), and you see it was quite close for the top places, and a lot of action in the last 2 rounds. In the end my 13.56m was good enough. Saulius, the Lithuanian thrower, is always very strong in the last round, and I was watching his last round quite nervously! He did a very strong last round but my win was with a good margin.
