Masters excel indoors

Our Masters athletes have excelled over the last three weekends winning medals galore!

The medal haul started with the Eastern Masters Championships on the 9th February 2025. Sarah McGrath was victorious in the shot with a distance of 10.37. Michael Hausler and Lisa Teverson also competed in the shot in their age groups with both athletes matching Sarah’s victory to complete a hat trick of gold medals. Oli Park won a silver medal in the 800m with Lowri Chatfield also winning a silver in the 60m hurdles.

The England Masters Inter-Area T&F Challenge 2025 took place on 16 February 2025 at Lee Valley Athletics Centre. Teams from regions of the UK take part in this annual event.

C&CC were represented by Sarah McGrath in the V50 shot coming away with a silver medal with a distance of 10.18 m. Joining Sarah in the Eastern Masters Athletic Club(EMAC) team was Pamela Abbott (2000m walk and Long Jump) and Rosie Abbott (800m and relay). Andrew Parmenter won the 800m with a time of 2:08.98. The EMAC team finished second overall in the men’s, women’s and combined teams. Lisa Teverson contributed to the day with a full day of officiating helping to ensure that events like these can go ahead.

Following on from these successes the Masters athletes travelled to Lee Valley again for the British Masters Indoor Championship on the 22nd and 23rd February. This meeting is a showcase for the top masters in the UK to compete for indoor honours.

Michael Hausler defended his shot title with a season’s best throw of 13.59m which is a also a world lead missing the British M65 indoor record by 15cm. Michael will now be hoping to peak for the World Indoor Masters Championships in Florida in late March.

Miraiker Wallace new to race walking competed with confidence to finish in the silver medal position in the 3000m walk in a time of 20:51.04.

Fresh from her success the week before Sarah McGrath won a bronze medal in the W 50 shot with a put of 10.31m. Lisa Teverson achieved a PB of 8.32m in the W55 shot and was rewarded with a silver medal.
