There are encouraging signs that Spring is on it’s way! The days are getting noticeably longer, and a little warmer, and the competition is definitely heating up for C&C athlete’s too!
As reported already, a wonderful weekend for C&C at the National Indoor Championships, with the undoubted highlight being Tom Keen’s spectacular qualification for the European Championships. It was also great to see Callum Elson running well at these championships. It is almost exactly a year since his awful injury at the World Indoor Champs., so it’s wonderful to see how strongly he is coming back.
Well done to all the C&C athletes at this event, it was great to see our club colours on such prominent display.
On the same weekend we had many athletes competing in the National Cross Country Champs. at the “Wembley stadium” of cross country running, Parliament Hill Fields. Excellent results here too, our Senior Men were 6th (Jack Gray first home in 6th), and our Senior Ladies 7th.

The highlight of the day was once again supplied by our brilliant U15 Boys who were 1st! Finn MacLennan was 3rd, Harrison Pearson 12th, Harry CantellΒ 38th, Joel Arnold-Pepper 39th. These 4 were the scorers, but they were also ably-supported by Andrew De Koning, Tiernan Coleman and Oliver Seaborn. Well done to them, and to coach Ric Park. What a team they are, and what a great show from C&C overall!
Well done also to our three medal-winning throwers at the BMAF Indoor Champs.: Michael Hausler (gold), Lisa Teverson (silver) and Sarah McGrath (bronze) all did the club proud.
Now, coming up on Sunday 2nd March, we have the final Frostbite League match of what has been the most exciting series for years. We go into this last fixture absolutely neck-and-neck with Hunts, the winners for the previous 4 successive seasons. So it will simply be a case of “winner takes all” on the day. Whatever happens it has been a great season, but it really would be special if we could claim that top spot! It has been the first season of team management for Paul Shearer and Lucy Drummond and they have done such a great job. So let’s support them with as big a turnout as possible, and see what we can do on the day. Be there if you can, and be part of the unfolding final drama!
We have a date for this year’s Cambourne 10k, Sunday 13th April. Please make a note of this and if you can help out on the day, or run, or just encourage others to enter, that would be great! It’s a big event for the club, and we take pride in it’s smooth running.
Also, coming up very soon, the Cambridge Half Marathon. Very best of luck to all of you that will be running, and to all of you that are supporting the event in whatever capacity that may be.
As we move towards Spring our attention begins to turn to the outdoor T&F season. We want to make this a really good one, from the EYAL right through to the Masters. We train to compete, wear that C&C vest with pride, and be the best that we can be, both individually, and as a team. All the meeting dates are on the website now, so make sure that you are ready to go right from the off! We want to create joyful sporting memories in 2025!
Finally, congratulations to:
- Alex Melloy, who joined the ever-increasing number of C&C athletes that have broken the 4 minute mile. His time was 3:58.42.Β
- Jonathan Escalante-Phillips who won the Stamford Striders 30k in a time of 1:36.27, five and a half minutes ahead of his nearest rival!
- Hannah Irwin, who recently ran the fastest Ladies Park Run of the weekend, with a time of 15:55.
- Martin Kilduff who completed his 250th Park Run at Coldham’s Common on Christmas Day 2024. Martin, who set 7 new age group Club records in 2024, has since gone on to complete more Park Runs, including one around the sulphurous pools of Puarenga in New Zealand! (Picture below)

Have a wonderful March, enjoy your training and competing!
