September provided yet another “First-ever” for Cambridge and Coleridge A. C.! Our Senior Men’s Team, and Under 15 Boys Team, both won at the South of England Road Relays! Our Senior Women were second. These are absolutely magnificent results, the Club’s first-ever victory at these championships (other than at a greatly scaled down event during lockdown). Well done once more to athletes, coaches and team managers on this outstanding achievement. Next up – the National Road Relays on 5th October. Good luck to our teams. we’ll be thinking of you, and willing you on every step of the way.

There’s a lot going on on the weekend of 5th/6th Oct. Good luck if you are running in either the Town and Gown 10k here in Cambridge, or the Abington 10k. If you not running in either of those, please try to support the C&C Frostbite team in the first match of the season at St Neots. It’s very unfortunate that there’s such a clash of fixtures, but it would be great to support new team managers Lucy and Paul, and get the season off to a flying start! You just need your C&C vest, a spring in your step, and a smile on your face! There’s a Junior race starting at 9.45, and a senior race at 10.30. All details are on the Club website. Very best of luck to everyone who is competing for the club this weekend, where-ever that may be.
September also saw the dramatic conclusion to the EMAC T&F Championships. Following excellent performances at the 4 meetings over the summer, our Masters Ladies again qualified for the final that took place at Milton Keynes. And it truly was dramatic! Every single point was fought for! Limp, hop, or even crawl, these ladies were going to make it to the finish line to win that point for the team. It paid off – for the second season in a row bronze medals were won. Last year though, the team was only a few points ahead of 4th, this time they were very, very close to second. Well done Ladies, another magnificent season. Next year we need to get the Men’s team through to the final too, what a day that could be!

I was very honored to be allowed to sneak into the team photo!
Well done to all those C&C members that took part in the Round Norfolk Relay! This includes not just the runners, but those that helped as marshals, organisers, car drivers, and all the other roles involved. This year we didn’t quite get the results we hoped for, but hey, what an experience for all that were there, And it just means we go back next year with unfinished business to take care of! Well done again!
Coming soon….look out on the website for an upgraded kit shop. Mainly thanks to Mo Park’s efforts, we have greatly increased the range of club wear available. Plenty of nice warm tops etc. with winter coming (would make excellent Christmas presents – although you may not want to wait that long!). We’ll confirm when it’s all up and running, then go ahead and treat yourselves!
Β Another thing that is happening this weekend (Sunday 6th) – the England Athletics Eastern awards evening. The Club has been shortlisted for three awards: Club of the Year, Project of the year (Mo Park and the Carver Track), and Services to Athletics (Noel Moss). We’ll let you know as soon as we can how it all works out. The event is actually being streamed live onΒ https://www.youtube.com/live/axoOcDTJlpo
Don’t forget our own Club AGM and awards evening on Monday 21st October. Please be there if you can, the AGM is important, and the giving out of the awards is a joy. We have much to celebrate, hopefully even more after this weekend.
Finally just to mention some recent fine individual achievements:
- Masters Shot Putter, Michael Hausler, had already set a new British Master M65 record earlier this year at Cambridge. Last weekend, at Sandy, he beat it again, taking the record from 13.41m to 14.08m.
- After a long spell out injured, it was great to see Nicola McBride back racing, and how! She ran the Great Shelford 5k last weekend in 19:33, giving her a fantastic Age Graded score of 91.27%!
- In the space of around 4 weeks, between mid-July and Mid-August, Samuel Clarke set new PB’s in 5 events: 100m (10:66), 200m (21:13), 400m (47:14), 110m H (14:61), and 400m H (50:99). A remarkable set of times, two of which (200m and 400mH) took him to No 1 ranking in the Eastern Region.Β
- Norman Shreeve was back on top marathon running form in Berlin. He ran 2:17.13. He was within a minute of his lifetime best, and was first Brit. home.
Amazing performances, many congratulations.
So much to look forward to in October. Have a great month!
