I mentioned in last month’s post about the club being shortlisted for two awards, the Eastern Region Club of the Year, and Project of the Year award (Mo Park’s work in the development of a C&C sister club at the new track at Carver). Since then, we have heard that C&C stalwart, Noel Moss, has also been shortlisted for the “Services to Athletics” award. This category didn’t go to an open vote, so don’t worry, you haven’t missed out on voting for Noel.
Voting has closed in the other categories now, but we won’t find out if we have won any of these awards until the England Athletics Awards Evening at Bury St Edmunds on 6th October. We look forward to that evening with excitement.
More amazing news just in!
Last year Ian Williamson won a gold medal at the European Masters Championships. Despite struggling a bit with a hip injury this season, this weekend (25/8/24) Ian took part in the final of the M45 1500m at the World Masters Championships in Gothenburg. He came 4th by the narrowest of margins. It was won in 4:10.75, Ian did 4:11.16, less than half a second from gold. What an athlete! And much more to come from Ian in the future, I’m sure.

The SAL season ended with a good solid team performance at Hemel Hempstead, where we came 3rd on the day. This gave us a final league placing of 10th out of 18 teams. This is a pretty satisfying result following our promotion last season. Well done to everyone who competed for the team this season, and to our fantastic coaches and team managers who put in so much of their time and effort.
The EAL and EYAL seasons are not over yet. There are exciting final events for C&C teams in both of these leagues. The EAL final is on 1st Sept. at Bury St Edmunds and the EYAL season has it’s final on 8th Sept. at Thurrock.
The season’s efforts come down to these final dates, so be there if you possible can and let’s see what can be achieved! Play your part in creating a day to remember!
The Ladies Masters Team have again reached the final, this to be held at Milton Keynes on 15th Sept.
What a team these “Superwomen” are, all working together to produce fantastic results. The Men’s Masters team did well too, but just lacked that strength in depth when injury ruled out some key team members. Such an enjoyable season though! If you are approaching your 35th birthday, and feeling that your best athletic days may be behind you, don’t worry! Masters athletics is a wonderful place to be, where you can build up friendly competitive rivalries that can last for decades! We can’t all be Ian Williamsons’ but you may find that your most enjoyable and satisfying days may still be ahead of you.
We really wish all the very best to every C&C athlete at these final events. Help and support each other, and give it everything you can, but most of all, have a great day out!
Our team of officials have again done such an amazing job this season. If you can possibly help them at any of these final three matches, please let us know. There are many roles that can be done that you don’t need any qualifications to carry out. If you are at the event anyway, as a parent or supporter, it would be fantastic if you could lend a hand, even if only for an hour or two. If you can help at the EMAC match please get in touch with Anne ([email protected]). For either of the other two matches contact Noel ([email protected]). Thank you.ย
Talking about great days out, the Round Norfolk Relay is coming soon! Once again we wish all the C&C runners the very best of luck. Have a fantastic day!
The Arkwright 5k League season seems to have shot by, and concluding with the final race at Royston. C&C, as a team, dominated the series from start to finish, and also took both of the top individual prizes – well done to Libby Brown and Tom Vickery. Our own C&C awards for the series went to Alex Geoghegan and Hamish Morton. Congratulations both! Well done to Joey Colley too, for a really successful first season as team manager.
Always remember though, it’s not all about winning. Being active, being out in the fresh air, training with friends, being a part of a team, setting your own targets and enjoying every step of the journey towards them, this is what it’s about. With C&C’s knowledgeable and inspirational coaches, this club can be the vehicle to help propel you towards your goals, whatever you chose them to be.
Enjoy your athletics.
Have a wonderful September.
