Calling all female athletes and coaches

We have been asked to publish this survey for female athletes

My name is Dr Victoria Onyeka, Iโ€™m a master’s student in Sports and Exercise medicine at the University of Leeds.

I am conducting a research project looking at the perspectives of coaches and female athletes, regarding the effects of the menstrual cycle on athletic performance.

This will be done via a short questionnaire lasting 15 minutes.

For this study, I am looking for female athletes aged between 18 and 35 who train and compete in any track & field event (including road running and cross country).

The aim of this study is to demonstrate whether female athletes notice differences in their performance, depending on where they are on their cycle, and whether coaches notice these differences. This will highlight gaps in difference in perspectives and the impact this has on the female athlete experience in training, competition, and their coach-athlete relationship.

Ethical approval has been obtained from the University of Leeds, Faculty of Biological Sciences Faculty Research Ethics Committee, BIOSCI 23-019.

All answers from the questionnaire will be completely anonymous, and we will not be asking for identifiable information in the questionnaire, except the consent form.

This study will be conducted under the University of Leeds policies regarding data protection, GDPR and ethics.

A link is attached for athletes to the athlete questionnaire, which contains the participant information for consenting questions. Alternatively, they can scan the QR code

Another importantly note for this study, is that we would also like to collect the perspective of coaches. Athletes who are happy for their coaches to participate in the study will have the coach questionnaire link included at the end of the athlete questionnaire. They can send the link in the athlete questionnaire to their coaches, as a form of informed consent to disclose anonymous information relevant to the topic of the study.

Any questions, please contact Dr Victoria Onyeka, the project lead via email: [email protected]

Kind regards
