The Varsity match between Cambridge and Oxford Universities on 18th May saw history being made.ย For the first time in the 149-year life of the event there was a para-athletics competition.ย University members of the C&C disability squad proposed the inclusion of para events, led by Roz Delap whose persistence and enthusiasm paid off.ย CUAC President, and C&C member, Johanna Schรถnecker supported the call and Oxford agreed.ย Roz and C&C clubmate Holly Mawdsley represented Cambridge.ย Both raced brilliantly achieving personal bests with Holly showing massive determination to finish first and Roz finishing second in the 100m and 400m wheelchair events.ย Results were based on Raza points โ a system which enables equivalent scores to be given for different events and different levels of disability.ย Athletes can compete in different events and the team result is calculated on the quality of the performances.ย Oxford won the team event by a single point but Roz and Holly and the CUAC officers have the satisfaction of knowing they have established a more diverse competition, creating a new tradition for maybe the next 149 years.
