Veterans' track and field

Below are details about the EVAC league matches for C&C in 2010.

We compete this season in the Three Counties division which is better for closer venues/travelling so maybe we will be able to get more athletes out for each match this year and earn a few more points.  Please let Carole know on this This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , if you're able to compete.

There will be four Weds evening matches and a final in Milton Keynes in September. Evening matches begin at 7pm.  The Final is an all day affair beginning at 10.30am. Matches are:

Weds May 5th BEDFORD

Weds June 2nd CAMBRIDGE

Weds July 7th SANDY (Biggleswade/Hunts)

Weds Aug 4th MILTON KEYNES

Anyone who can come as a field judge, track judge or timekeeper, please also let Carole know.

Please note that to compete you need to be a member of EVAC as well as C&C. An electronic EVAC renewal/membership form is here.  Please make sure you get this sorted out before the first match.

Results

BEDFORD

After the first match at Bedford on May 5th both our men's and women's teams are in 8th place overall (out of 13 and 12 teams respectively).

The first two teams in each division will go through to the final in September, plus the two next best teams (after points adjustments).

Here are the results of the Bedford match. Cambridge men are in 4th place at the moment in the Three Counties Division only 6 points behind Huntingdon in 3rd. Cambridge women are 3rd at the moment, 23 points behind Bedford, but if we have a good turnout at Cambridge both placings can be vastly improved! Please come and help fill lots of events, even if some are not your usual ones!! Hats off to our two throwers Phil Bramford and Frank Martin who bravely took part in the men's relay at Bedford and helped to gain us 3 well-earned points!!

CAMBRIDGE
The results of our second EVAC league match at Cambridge in June are available on this link.

SANDY
The results of our third EVAC league match at Sandy in July are here .

The men's team only achieved 5th place this time as we had only 4 men taking part (well done to those four who were able to make it) - many of you were away or injured. We were only 3 points behind Biggleswade, but 38 behind Huntingdon! Women's team had a few more bodies with 7 taking part and managed 3rd place this time only 16 points behind Bedford.

MILTON KEYNES
The results of our fourth EVAC league match at Milton Keynes in August are here.  A complete summary of positions after the four matches is below.

The men's team achieved 4th place this time with very few athletes (well done to those who were able to make it)! We were only 24 points ahead of Biggleswade this time, but again 33 behind Huntingdon! Women's team managed 3rd place again but with very few athletes were 55 points behind Bedford!

AFTER 4 EVENTS
As you can see from the summary here, our men's team scored 164, which overall would have put them in 8th place out of 13 if the scoring was done on points. But the system involves the top 2 teams in each division going through to the final, plus two others worked out as follows. Dave Stephenson of FVS calculated these on the basis of putting all of the 7 non top 6 teams into a single virtual match for each match and working out the next best two teams across the season from the aggregate score from these virtual matches. This took account of the different numbers of teams in each division.

On that basis, Loughton and Huntingdon are the next two best, so Cambridge men won't be in the final.

Using the same system, Cambridge women will be in the final along with Fairland Valley Spartans.

The final will be at MILTON KEYNES on Sunday 5 September. We are still short of judges and a timekeeper. If you can come along to this match, please let me know

Many thanks!

Carole

C&C have qualified for the East Anglian league final on Sept 19th in U13B, U13G, U15B, U15G, SW and SM agegroups. The U17 Men unfortuately didnt make it.

Four new club records over the W/E of 6-8 August. Ed Aston broke his own Senior 800m record with 1:47.1, Morgan Young broke his own U15Boys Javelin record with 54.23m, and Charlotte Murphy broke the U13 Girls 1500m record with 5:04.7. The U15 Boys relay team also set a new record for their age-group.

Ed Aston won the silver medal in the England Athletics Senior 800m championships at Gateshead on 18th July.

Congratulations to all our English Schools competitors for their good performances, but especially by Ben Kelk - 3rd in U20 Mens 110 Hurdles, and Morgan Young - 4th in U15 Boys Javelin.

Charlotte Cox added the DSE Under 20's 100m and 200m Gold medals to the double silvers she won in the Mencap National Championships.

National Championship win for Ben Kelk in the Under 20 mens 100m hurdles in the U20/U23 championships at Bedford. Ben ran 13.86 in the heats and 13.87 in the final. A new personal best but tantalisingly just six hundredths short of Jon Ridgeons club record set in 1984.
