How to join

Full membership is open to any person over 10 on 31st August in the year of competition. (We are pleased to welcome athletes under 10 to one of our 'community clubs'.)

We have three levels of membership:

  • Waged applies to any competitive athlete who is in paid work
  • Unwaged applies to any competitive athlete not in paid work - this applies to young athletes, students, full-time carers, pensioners and anyone out of work
  • Associate applies to anyone who would like to be associated with the club but doesn't wish to compete

You can come along on a trial basis for a couple of weeks to decide whether you want to join and there are many people who can help you decide what to get involved in!

What to do first.

For athletes under fifteen, come along to a training session on a Monday evening, join in and see if you like it.

For athletes over 15, interested in track and field, come along on a Tuesday evening in the summer, when most coaches will be around, and ask for advice or get in touch with a relevant coach or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

For athletes interested in road or cross-country running, come along to a Tuesday night training session (summer or winter), join in and see if you like it.

What if I’m new to athletics?

The club welcomes athletes of all abilities and we’ll try to find a group that meets your needs. Check out the options below and if none describes your position, even approximately, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

If you are 15 or under turn up on a Monday evening and, in summer, check in at the Pavilion at the track 10 minutes or so before the session starts. You will be introduced to a coach for the event(s) you are interested in. In the winter come along to the Monday evening indoor session at Chesterton Community Sports Centre and talk to the people there.

If you are over 15 and interested in track and field, speak to the relevant coach or come along on a Tuesday evening in the summer, when most coaches will be around, and ask for advice. It will be possible to fit you in to a training group appropriate for your needs.

If you are interested in road running or general endurance events for fitness and competition, come along to the University Track on a Tuesday evening at 6.30 (winter or summer) and introduce yourself to the coach for that session.

What if I’m experienced?

Come along on the relevant evening and talk to one of the coaches.

If you’re interested in coaching or becoming a track or field judge….. we’d be delighted to explain how to do that. We will subsidise the cost of training courses. Please turn up and enquire or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

You can buy a vest for £14. This is essential for competing for the club and is a requirement for new members. If you already have a vest in the family - maybe passed on from a brother or sister - it isn't necessary to buy one when you join.

Junior membership is now open

We have occasionally had to impose a waiting list but junior membership is now open and is likely to be so for the foreseeable future. If you wish to join, please come to the University track, Wilberforce Road, CB3 0EQ (see 'Directions' on the right) on a Monday evening. Under 13s should come at 6.20 p.m. and under 15s at 7.15 p.m.. Please check in at the C&C Reception table. It’s fine to attend for a couple of weeks to decide if you want to join the club. Membership for these age groups is open only to young people who were over 10 on 31st August 2009 but under 13 (or 15) on 31st August 2010, years 6 and above. Unfortunately we are unable to take children younger than this in the main club.

We have set up a number of 'community clubs' for youngsters younger than 10 (years 3-6 at primary school). Please look at the 'Athletes under 10' page for further details.
