Young athletes training


If you are new to the club, you must attend an induction evening before you can attend any sessions. Details of how to join and induction evenings are given on the 'Membership' page.
At Cambridge University Sports Centre 6.00-8.00 from November to February 

6.00-7.00 Under 13 athletes (years 6 and 7)

7.00-8.00 Under 15 athletes (years 8 and 9)

 Please wear clean trainers in the sports hall.

There is an endurance group for athletes in years 7, 8 and 9. It runs from the Sports Centre from 6.30-7.45. The group is aimed at athletes who wish to run cross-country events. Hi-viz tops are mandatory.

It is not possible to take a car to the Sports Centre itself except for disabled badge holders.  Cars should be parked in the car park on Charles Babbage Road, at the top of the access road to the Sports Centre, which is the car park for the Institute for Manufacturing.  It is on the western side of the Institute for Manufacturing building and the eastern side of the access road to the Sports Centre.  This is the only car park available to us.  It's about 100m from the Sports Centre.


Young athletes' training goes out doors at the track from February until October .
Under 13 training is from 6.30-7.30. Please sign in upstairs at the track from 6.20 for a prompt start.
Under 15 training begins at 7.30. Please sign in upstairs at the track. Groups finish at approximately 8.15 to 8.30. Please check the precise starting and finishing times with your coach

• Under 13 athletes train from 6.30 to 7.30 in one of three groups. The sessions are organised in a rota, Run, Jump, Throw, Choice. The endurance running session is also available for athletes in year 7.

• Under 15 athletes train from 7.30 to 8.30 either following a rota or as specialists. The rota is organised as three groups following a pattern of Run, Jump, Throw. There is no choice week. In order to specialise you need to ask the coach's agreement and that agreement is based on the coach's assessment of your needs and ability. In order for the coach to make an effective assessment it is essential that you have competed in the relevant event and have proper times and distances recorded. Specialist athletes are expected to make a commitment to train regularly. The endurance running session is also available .

• Under 17 athletes should normally train on Tuesdays or Thursdays as part of a coach's group. Please speak to the coaches whose groups you would like to join if you have not already done so. Under 17 athletes are expected to train regularly and to be serious about their events. If you are keen to carry on with athletics but to focus less on competition, you should consider joining the club's Leaders' Academy. This will enable you to learn about officiating, coaching and other skills related to athletics and sport more generally. Note - we train throughout the school holidays - but not on Bank holidays.
Older athletes can use the track at these times provided there are no capacity problems.
Under 13 and under 15 athletes must be given priority on Monday evenings.
Parents, please arrange to drop off and pick up your young athletes at the appropriate time. Thanks

  • Scottish U20W 60m Hurdles champion +

    Finlay Marriott was a clear winner of the Scottish Under 20 Womens Indoor 60m Hurdles Championship at the Emirates Arena on 11th February with a time of 8.90 secs.

  • Special General Meeting +

    There will be a Special General Meeting of the Club on Tuesday 21 February 2017, at 8:15pm at  the University Track.  The meeting is being held to consider approval to convert C&C into a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.  Further details can be found on the link below.

  • Superb County XC results +

    Magnificent results from the County Cross-country Championships.  C&C destroyed the competition.  Congratulations to all athletes and coaches.  For full results click here and for a match report click here 

  • Christmas Party +

    This year's C&C Christmas Party will be held at Anglia Ruskin University on Friday 2nd December, 7.30 - midnight. There will be a Ceilidh band and a buffet. Open to all C&C members and their guests. Over 18s only. To buy a ticket  click here

  • U15 boys win National Road Relays +

    Brilliant result from the under 15 boys in the National Road Relays.  National champions!  Other teams did well too.  Full results are here 

  • Barry Wallman +

    It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Barry from a major heart attack.  Barry's funeral will take place on Thursday, 16 June at 12 noon at Linton Parish Church and the burial at Little Abington church cemetery.  A number of tributes to Barry have been posted - Read them here


  • English Cross country champs 2016 +

    A brilliant 2nd team place for the U17 men (Ashley, Rob, Ollie and Jordan), and 3rd team for the U17 Women (Julia, Belinda, Alice and Evie). The U13B were 7th team.

    Best finish of the day was 5th for David Dow (U15B). The womens team was 11th of 84 teams with Vikki Knight 19th of 700.

  • National Indoor Triplejump champion +

    Congratulations to Adelaide Omitowoju who is the England Athletics U17 Womens Indoor  triple jump champion with a new U17W club record of 11.86m, and to her coach Mo Park.
